Me and my fellow corrections officers are hard at work each day trying our best to keep any types of drugs out of the hands of the inmates. If one inmate is getting high, they not only are a danger to themselves, they are going to put me, my officers, visitors, staff, and other inmates in danger. We spend a good part of our day working to fight the flow of drugs, and we have several resources available to us in order to do that.
One of the things we do each day is take the drug-sniffing dogs into the cells to find anything illegal. We spend a large part of the day searching inmates and visitors for any contraband, then we turn our focus on the phones. After we monitor inmate calls, we even check the mail for anything that should not be there. Despite all these efforts, we still have a big problem with the inmates being able to get drugs.
When we were informed by our superiors that Securus Technologies was going to be upgrading our phone monitoring system, we didn’t have a clue back then as to how incredibly valuable this resource would be. In the past we had to pay close attention to the calls and try to make certain we did not miss key chatter on drugs, weapons, or other illegal activities. Securus Technologies is taking the correctional facilities by storm in its communicative design. It is a program that enables inmates to participate in visitation sessions with their relatives, friends, or significant others via means of video conferencing in which the “visitor” in this case can simply “visit”, although not technically, from the comfort of their very own home.
There are a vast array of reasons why people are choosing to utilize this form of communications over actual visitation in a jail center. Firstly, the visitor is no longer obligated to travel any specific distances to the jail as they can conduct their visitation session over a computer connection. Second, the video conference session that Securus Technologies provides enables people to connect without having to go through the lengthy appointment processes that have often been an issue for many when setting up scheduled appointments, and last (at least in this particular list; there are probably a lot more, but we will not get into it here,) it enables authorities to take advantage of an opportunity in which they may potentially be able to make an arrest if any kind of evidence is revealed. In this case, conversation counts as evidence, thus, giving them the right to utilize any segments of what is being said by either party if needed.

We were quite literally at the end of our rope when you had our first call with Securus, and it was over Christmastime. We were in a bind as our family was split up between the jail and home. I taught my cousin how to use the app on her phone, and she loves to talk to my mom now.

I called to set up my service, and I asked the person on the other end of the phone how to manage my account from my computer. I learned many things about my account, and I have an account today that was started with the first person I talked to. I have sent many people in the family over to receive help with their accounts, and I am pleased with the way their company looks after us. I feel welcome and respected at all times with Securus.
